Difference between Nutritional Yeast and Brewer’s Yeast:
Brewer’s Yeast and Nutritional Yeast are very similar, but not the same.
Both are made from Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast – a type of single-celled fungus. However, their taste and nutritional profile are different.
Brewer’s Yeast is a by-product of the beer brewing process. It has a distinct bitter taste and contains most of the vitamin B, except for B12. Brewer’s Yeast is also a rich source of Chromium and other trace minerals.
Nutritional Yeast is grown on sugar or beet molasses. Its taste is mild and nutty, which makes it a preferred substitute in vegan recipes. Nutritional Yeast contains various vitamin Bs, including vitamin B12, but doesn’t contain Chromium.
