Gymnema Sylvestre contains substances that decrease the absorption of sugar from the intestine. Gymnema may also increase the amount of insulin in the body and increase the growth of cells in the pancreas, where insulin is produced.
Cinnamon increases glucose metabolism about 20-fold and has been found to have “insulin-like effects” Cinnamon slows the emptying of the stomach to reduce sharp rises in blood sugar following meals, and improves the effectiveness, or sensitivity, of insulin.
Fenugreek improves most metabolic symptoms associated with diabetes by lowering blood glucose levels and improving glucose tolerance.
Berberine decreases insulin resistance, making the blood sugar lowering hormone insulin more effective. Increases glycolysis, the breakdown of glucose inside cells. Decreases glucose production in the liver. Slows the digestion of carbohydrates. Increases the number of beneficial bacteria in the gut. Berberine also reduces the HBA1C, triglycerides, LDL cholesterol, and blood pressure.
