More about Graviola (Soursop):
Graviola is usually found in South America and is often used as a base for beverages, ice creams and other popular sweets. It’s also known Soursop, Custard apple and Guanabana.
Native people in South America use the bark, leaves, root and fruits of the Graviola tree.
The leaves of Graviola tree contain high levels of antioxidants, including saponins, flavonoids, tannins, phenols, phytosterols and acetogenins.
As an herbal supplement, Graviola has been used to support pancreatic health, assist with balancing blood sugar levels and to encourage a healthy immune system.
For some, it can also be used as a relaxing agent and for treating an infection caused by sand fleas (leishmaniasis).
Laboratory studies show that extract from Graviola can kill certain certain types of liver and breast cancer cells, and prostate cancer cells in mice.
Graviola fruit (Soursop) can be cut into segments and eaten raw. If the fruit is green, simply allow it to ripen on the countertop or in the fridge, similar to ripening an avocado. Cut the fruit longways. The custard-like, cream-colored flesh can be eaten by scooping it out with a spoon.
Graviola fruit has a sour and sweet taste similar to the combination of a banana-pineapple flavor and emits a tropical fruit-like scent that’s a bit musky.
Warning: Don’t take Graviola supplements if pregnant or breastfeeding or on medications.
