Why Combine Fermented Cod Liver Oil and Butter Oil?
The two oils have different nutritional profiles.
Fermented Cod Liver Oil naturally contains fat-soluble vitamins A and D together with marine omega-3 fatty acids, including EPA and DHA.
Concentrated Butter Oil comes from dairy fat produced by grass-fed cows and is concentrated through centrifugation. It naturally contains vitamin A, CLA and other fat-soluble components of butterfat.
Dr. Weston A. Price became interested in using cod liver oil together with high-vitamin butter oil during his nutritional work in the early 20th century. Green Pasture’s blend reflects that historical approach.
Fermented Cod Liver Oil
Green Pasture produces its Fermented Cod Liver Oil from wild-caught Alaska cod sourced from the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands region. Rather than relying on conventional industrial extraction alone, the company uses fermentation to help release the oil from the cod livers.
Green Pasture also uses third-party laboratory testing as part of its quality-control programme.
Concentrated Butter Oil
The butter-oil component takes inspiration from Dr Price’s historical “high-vitamin butter oil.” Green Pasture uses dairy from grass-fed cows and concentrates the butter oil through centrifugation.
This means it is not simply ghee. Ghee clarifies butter by removing water and milk solids, while Concentrated Butter Oil involves fractionating butterfat through centrifugation.
